space grants

The Space Grant Program is designed to give choreographers, playwrights, and multi-disciplinary artists the opportunity to create new work in a setting that is conducive to working deeply and exploring new territory.

Recipients receive free rehearsal space in one of BAX’s four studios. BAX is offering three different types of Space Grants:

PARENT/CHOREOGRAPHER SPACE GRANT – 40 hours, Work Period only
This pilot program is an initiative by BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange, funded in part by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, that has been developed to address some of the needs of NYC choreographers who are trying to meet the challenges of being an artist and a parent to newborn through pre-school age (0-4) children. CATHARINE DILL / EXPLODING MOMENT

“This space grant came at a critical time for our project and we could not have possibly gotten more out of it. We are so touched by your commitment to long-term project development and impressed with the organization you’ve installed to support it. YE’RE HERE, CUZIN! generated a lot of special requests, and I was floored by your ability to meet these challenges.

As a result of your expertise and commitment, my cast and crew were able to dig deeply into our project with even greater freedom. We completely overhauled our text, and we were able to bring in video, music, equipment and new cast members very early to experiment. Each one of these elements required the special assistance of someone at BAX, and we thank you for your commitment and flexibility.

We are hoping to finish YE’RE HERE, CUZIN! in the next year, and will look forward to your seeing the completed project. Meanwhile, we want to wish you a terrific holiday and thank you again for going above and beyond in championing our work.”
