public school partnerships

Teaching partnership — classroom teacher & teaching artist
Curriculum development — theater & dance in the core curriculum
Professional Development — real skills for real schools
We provide over 3,000 students in Brooklyn schools with Arts Education services, and bring eighteen years of arts education experience to each school, whether long-time or new partners. We provide distinct, skill-based classes as well as expressive, creative “art-making” in performing arts based disciplines. Residencies can culminate with public performance at the school for other students, teachers, families, and the extended school community.
Our teachers are wholly enthusiastic about the BAX teaching artists. We have prioritized BAX as our primary arts partner and wish every child and every teacher could benefit from the talented teaching artist throughout the school year.

Available Curriculum
Creative Dramatics – A fun yet challenging process of learning-through-experience that builds skills and encourages listening, responding, creativity, problem-solving, risk taking, and group awareness. Each class consists of simple physical and vocal warm ups, improvisation, theatre games, and short scenes. We explore the use of costumes and props, and dramatize stories from favorite books.
Creative Movement – A fun, creative, and engaging introduction to the world of movement, from Modern to the African Diaspora, to ballet or hip hop. Students explore the possibilities of movement through imagination and make-believe, while learning how to make shapes and understand the use of negative space and travel patterns.
Spanish as a Living Language – SALL incorporates theater & dance and is taught in Spanish & English. Utilizing both disciplines, this curriculum focuses on building creative tools for confident learners. Poetry, music, improvisation, and a wide array of theater & dance games are included in the curriculum.
Tumbling – This class supports fundamental motor skills and challenges students in their beginning stages of development, using exercises from yoga to gymnastics. Students learn to roll backwards and forwards, do logrolls, somersaults, headstands and handstands, and learn the basics of balancing while encouraging body strength. (more limited enrollment)
Original Musical – A culminating fourth grade musical combines original songs, choreography, and staging, and uses school-based arts teachers, classroom teachers and BAX teaching artists. A great tool for parental involvement, and school wide pride!
