BAX is the ideal place to develop as a dancer.

Our thriving building is full of professionals rehearsing, collaborating, workshopping, and using our intimate theater space to showcase their work.

Our dance/movement teaching artists draw on their experience in the field to bring out each student’s unique voice while strengthening her or his technique.  Our movement classes are tailored toward the developmental stage of the child, providing a challenging as well as supportive experience.  Each young artist is given tools to grow both technically and creatively.  Students explore a variety of dance techniques as well as improvisation and choreography.

Our process-based approach begins in our Creative Movement I and II classes, where young children channel their love of imagination and learn how to embody qualities of movement, develop spatial awareness, explore rythym and shape as well as skills such as jumping, leaping and turning. The focused work continues in Modern I, II, III & IV where students are challenged to discover their own personal creativity while developing a strong dance technique.

Tumbling I, II, III, & IV enhance our well rounded movement offerings by adding a joyful, playful quality to the BAX experience, challenging physicality, exploring inversions, partner acrobatics and gymnastics.  These classes provide a complimentary skill set that deepens and broadens students’ ideas about movement.

Boys Movement harnesses the unique energy that boys bring into the studio by allowing them to explore big and exciting movement in a safe space. The newest dance offering, Ballet Fundamentals continues to embrace students’ creativity while delving into the rigorous tradition specific to this form. Self-directed dancers learn how to bring their concepts to life and try new ideas with their peers, as they create dance pieces that are truly original.

Our classes introduce choreography, touch on dance history and theory, and empower young artists to express themselves fiercely and truthfully. Emphasis is placed on reflection, allowing students the time and space to articulate what they see, a valuable life skill as well as a great tool in developing thoughtful art appreciators!

Our modern sensibility encourages our thinking dancers to uncover their essence and be fully present.
