BAX is the ideal place to develop as an actor.

Our theater teaching artists draw on their experience in the field to bring out each student’s unique voice while strengthening their technique.  Our classes create an ensemble, develop spatial and compositional skills, and tap into the joy of creating  collaboratively.

Capitalizing on the strong movement tradition at BAX, our approach to theater is visceral, developing and harnessing the physical risk taking that makes for a well rounded theater artist.  This approach is evident in all our theater classes and is adapted to the age and skill level in the room.

This unique approach starts in our Drama-Rama class where young children channel the love of make believe and learn how to embody a story, develop a character and work as an ensemble.  The work continues in Theater III & as well as Dance Act, Sing!.

The newest theater offering, Acting Intensive pushes these skills even further combining all the elements that Theater draws on, improvisation, text, vocal technique and more. Self directed actors learn to make strong choices and try new ideas with their peers.

Our classes introduce playwriting, directing and design and empower young artists to tell their own stories fiercely and truthfully. Time and space is carved out of our process to reflect and articulate what they see, a valuable skill in the intense collaboration that theater requires. Our intentionally stripped down style encourages our actors to uncover their essence and be fully present.

Our Actors:

Develop collaborative skills
Offer their own ideas
Find the most interesting choices
Expand their physical vocabulary
Think on their feet
Trust their instincts
Know how to approach text

BAX is the ideal place to develop as a theater artist.  Our thriving building is full of professional artists rehearsing, collaborating, workshopping, and using our intimate theater space to showcase their work.
