2022 BAX Space Grant Application

2022 Space Grant Overview:

3 grants will be offered in dance, theater, and interdisciplinary performance. Space grants will take place between February 2022-June 2022.

2022 BAX Space Grant recipients receive:

  • $600 stipend.
  • Support of a cohort.
  • 100 hours of rehearsal space at 421 5th Avenue.
  • Mentorship from Artistic Advisors Abigail Browde and nia love.
  • An informal open studio share with cohort and BAX artist programs staff the week of May 31, 2022. Exact date to be confirmed.

Elligibility:

  • Artists exploring work rooted in dance, theater, and interdisciplinary performance.
  • Applicants must live within New York City (one of the 5 boroughs).
  • Applicants must be over the age of 18.
  • Full-time students are not eligible.
  • Former BAX Space Grant Artists who have received previous space grants must wait three years before reapplying. For example, if you received a grant in 2018 (or earlier) you may re-apply in 2021.

Due Date:

Application closes Monday, October 18 at 11:59 ET*.
*BAX staff will be available to answer questions until 4:00pm ET on Monday, October 18.

Important Dates for Applicants:

  • October 18: applications due.
  • December 20, 2021: Space Grantees notified of their application status.
  • January 2022: (exact date pending) Space Grant artist welcome and orientation (zoom).
  • January 13, 2022: Studio space booking requests due.
  • Week of May 31, 2022 (exact date to be confirmed): Informal, shared studio showing.

Space and Studio Details:

BAX Space Grants for performing artists include a stipend, support of a cohort, rehearsal space, mentorship, and an informal studio share.

BAX is currently located at 421 Fifth Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. There are 4 studios ranging in size from 20 by 30 to 27 by 37. More details are available in the space section of our website . Please note studios are on the second and third floors with no elevator access. Accessible space and accommodations are available upon request and made in collaboration with the artists.

The application has optional fields for personal and demographic information like age, race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexuality, and disability. The information provided by applicants when answering these fields helps BAX to be accountable to those commitments.
